Heidelberg Materials’ evoZero cement has arrived in the UK from the company’s Brevik plant in Norway.
Around 3,500 tonnes of the product have been delivered by sea to the Port of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is being stored in silos and is available for use in projects across England.
“evoZero is the world’s first carbon-captured near-zero cement and sets new standards for sustainable building materials,” said Andy Murphy, UK Group Commercial Director.
“The product achieves its near-zero footprint through the application of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and will help the UK construction industry reach its decarbonisation aims.
“It has a uniquely low Global Warming Potential, delivered via a process that is fully third-party verified by DNV and digitally traceable to ensure transparency.”
Heidelberg Materials says it is committed to scaling solutions like evoZero across its operations as part of its Strategy 2030. Based on the knowledge and experience gained at Brevik, it has around a dozen other CCS products underway globally.
The next to be operational will be in the UK at its Padeswood cement works in North Wales. This project reached a final investment decision with the UK Government in September 2025 and is expected to produce evoZero in 2029.
Padeswood CCS builds on the success of Brevik, which captures around 50 per cent of the plant’s CO₂ emissions, approximately 400,000 tonnes a year. The Padeswood facility is designed to capture nearly all (around 95 per cent) of the carbon emissions from the existing cement works – approximately 800,000 tonnes per year.
