Hanson has supplied the concrete foundation pads for a new NHS Nightingale Hospital that is under construction in Exeter, south-west England.
The site of a former DIY store is being transformed into a 120-bed hospital, set to open later this month (June). It will take COVID-19 patients from Devon, Cornwall and neighbouring counties to support the existing hospital network should it be needed.
The concrete was supplied to construction company GWorks by Hanson’s South West team and has been used to create the foundation pads for the modular units which form the extensions to the existing building, as well as bases for the various mechanical and electrical plant, medical gas storage and scanning facilities. Hanson has also supplied the new drainage and kerbing.
The company says its team is providing a prioritised ordering service, which is critical due to the nature of the design release and extremely tight programme.
Matt Coffey, contracts manager at GWorks, said: “The scheme design is very fluid, which has resulted in short notice for some sizable pours. Hanson has given us a great supply throughout and gone over and above what is expected.”
