High standards when it comes to productivity and comfort are claimed for the latest addition to Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe’s (HCME) large capacity rigid dump truck range. The new EH4000ACII is said to be technologically advanced and the company has said that it has drawn on some of the pioneering technology from its high-speed bullet trains and automation systems for large production plants, as well as key innovations from the construction machinery division.

“After months of rigorous testing in the toughest environments, the EH4000ACII is ready to roll into the European market,” explained HCME manager heavy and mining equipment international sales (Europe) Greg Smith. “This groundbreaking new model benefits from Hitachi technologies at large – such as transportation, logistics, power and industrial services – resulting in better performance, comfort and safety and reduced running costs.” Like the current EH3500ACII model, the new EH4000ACII uses AC-drive technology and load-responsive Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), which have been developed by Hitachi. According to the company, this combination enables smooth operation and optimal speed control, as well as increased productivity and reduced fuel consumption during the haul cycle.

The new model is equipped with a powerful Cummins QSKTA60-CE engine. The company has said that the electricdrive EH4000ACII delivers more efficient power transfer to the road than mechanically driven trucks due to the elimination of heavy rotating parts such as the transmission and torque converter. The truck also has more controlled braking power compared with the previous model.

Specification

Manufacturer: Hitachi
Model: EH4000ACII RDT
Operating weight: 384tonnes
Maximum payload: 222tonnes
Heaped capacity: 153m3
Maximum speed: 56km/h
Special features: AC-drive for efficient power transfer; strong safety-focused designHitachi has developed the new truck to match its Hitachi EX-series large excavators. Its body is designed with a sloped floor and tail chute for less spillage and the smoother shedding of materials, and its large capacity results in shorter loading cycles. For example, it is designed around an even six pass loads from a Hitachi EX3600-6 and five loads from a Hitachi EX5500-6.
