The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry is partnering the Ministry of Public Works to conduct research on using steel slag waste as an ingredient for asphalt concrete mix. It is claimed that the use of steel slag waste, though more expensive, will increase the strength of concrete by 400% compared to the use of limestone. Slag can also be used as sand blasting for paving block and painting ship docks. However steel slag is still categorised as toxic and hazardous waste.
