Between January and November 2014, sales of cement increased by 3.4% compared to the same period of 2013 to 54.6 million tonnes. For 2014, the association expects cement sales to grow by 4%, slower than the 5.8% growth in 2013. The slower growth was due to national and regional elections that led to a delay in infrastructure projects, poor purchasing power and high interest rates, according to Widodo Santoso, chairman of the Indonesia Cement Association. Santoso believes that 2014 cement sales will be a maximum of 62 million tonnes.
