Future-proofing the mineral extractives industry’s workforce is an imperative that is being addressed as a priority.

It will form the hot topic of discussion at the IQ Academy Lunch and Learn webinar, which is taking place from 12.30-1pm on Thursday, 21 June.

Inspiring Futures in Mineral Extractives will be presented by Anthony Elgey, general manager for MP Futures, part of MPQC.

“I’ve worked in the quarrying industry for over 20 years and the issue of an ageing workforce is one that we’ve been talking about for as long as I can remember,” he says.

“This bitesize webinar will explore how the industry’s employers can get involved with our initiative and promote the great things our industry does; how we can engage with local schools, colleges and universities to inspire future employees, and why Inspiring Futures is so important for future-proofing our industry.”

James Thorne, CEO IQ, says:

“There is an urgent need to understand how the sector will replace a vast proportion of its workforce due to retirement.

“Anthony is extremely passionate about education and employee development. Not only will the webinar encourage discussion around an industry-wide issue, but it also earns members valuable continuing professional development (CPD).”

MP Futures is the lead player in the Inspiring Futures initiative, which promotes careers in the mineral extractives industry to the next generation. Its aim is to create a mechanism that will enable and assist all employers in the sector to engage with future employees.

IQ Academy Lunch and Learn is a compelling series of issues-related seminars delivered by IQ Academy.

The next webinars to run are:

• 26 July: Basis of Plant Design, Nick Peatling from NIRAC.

• 30 August: Empowering People through Great Leadership, Julian Smallshaw from IQ.
