Irish Cement has installed a solar power system involving 1MW of solar arrays across two buildings on its Palatin site.
The installation will support the site’s operations by using the generated power directly on site, feeding it straight into the site’s electricity supply. The Platin Projects Team delivered the project after the site team suggested the concept, with the employee-driven idea now becoming part of the site’s ongoing operations.
Irish Cement Platin Works environmental manager James Weir said the project supported the company’s decarbonisation goal.
“Ireland’s solar output is highly seasonal due to longer daylight hours with around 70% of annual solar electricity generated from April to September,” he said.
“We are looking forward to seeing how well the panels perform over the summer.
“Secure, decarbonised renewable energy sources like these are vital for Platin and this project supports both our decarbonisation and competitiveness goals.”
