Construction equipment sales in Italy fell 11% year-on-year in 2024 to 22,013 units.
The overall figure shows that 20,988 sales were of earthmoving machines (-12%), with 1,025 road machines (+9%). Unacea, the Italian construction equipment association, published the figures.
“Despite the reduction in sales of earthmoving machines, a positive note comes from road machines, which shows a countertrend in a generally less favourable context,” said Michele Vitulano, president of Unacea. “Unacea had anticipated this physiological decline, hoping that construction and infrastructure activity levels could still meet the country’s needs.”
Foreign trade is also down, as indicated by the latest Unacea-Cer foreign trade report. Italian construction equipment exports between January and October 2024 surpassed €2.6 billion, down 8% compared to the same period in 2023. Imports also showed a negative trend, decreasing by 5% to €1.8 billion. The trade balance remains in surplus at nearly €845 million, but there is a 13% decline compared to the previous year.
