With a booming construction sector backed by government funding, cement consumption in Indonesia is said to be increasing at an unprecedented rate. To meet with the increasing demand, one cement supplier, PT Pionir Beton Industri, has opted for a fleet of SDLG LG958L wheeled loaders to ensure efficient operation at its plant in Jakarta.

Located in Kasablanka, central Jakarta, PT Pionir Beton Industri’s plant has a fleet of eight SDLG wheeled loaders supplied by PT Indotruck Utama, the brand’s Indonesian dealer.

The models are helping the site produce an average 1000m³ cement/day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Every day, aggregates are transported from quarries located 40-50km away which are then mixed, grinded and turned at the Kasablanka plant into ready-mixed cement, which is then supplied to construction jobsites. The SDLG fleets are running around 8-10 hours per shift on two daily shifts and the longest-serving one has clocked in 7,650 hours since July 2014.

Part of the Indocement Group, PT Pionir Beton Industri produces ready-mixed cement out of high-quality aggregates from its 42 batching plants across Indonesia and supplies to customers in construction and infrastructure building.

“We purchased our first SDLG LG958L in 2013 and then increased the size to a fleet of eight over just one year, “said Sujadi, maintenance manager of PT Pionir Beton Industri.

“Originally we were using other brands but when the cost of downtime weighed us down, we started looking for a brand that could deliver rigorous duties without compromising uptime, and SDLG clearly has those as priorities.”

Equipped with a Weichai Tier II WD10G220E23 engine, the 5tonne-rated LG958L is designed to deliver robust performance and durability against harsh climate and challenging terrain conditions. Its ZF power shift transmission offers higher torque and greater traction. The model’s cab is ergonomic and comfortable, with built-in climate control and reduced noise, and it features a large windscreen for better visibility.

Fitted with a 3m³ bucket and reinforced boom, the machine offers outstanding loading performance in any application. The wheeled loader is backed by a 2,000 hour warranty countrywide.

“Our operation has recorded minimum downtime since we adopted SDLG machines. With a long monsoon season we have here, durable performance and maintenance support are vital to our timely delivery, and thanks to our trusted partner, PT Indotruck Utama, we are able to achieve this goal,” said Sujadi.

Established in 1988, PT Indotruck Utama (ITU), a subsidiary of Indomobil Group, is one of the largest distributors of heavy equipment in Indonesia.

As the only authorised SDLG dealer in Indonesia with operations in Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara and Papua, ITU is said to deliver fast and effective aftermarket support. In 2014, SDLG became the first Chinese construction equipment brand to open its part depot in Jurong, Singapore, providing dedicated support and fast parts access to customers in South East Asia.

The future of the cement industry is boding well. According to the Jakarta Globe newspaper, cement consumption is expected to rise 10% in 2016, with cement sales forecasted to grow to 64.5 million tonnes.

“The machines are a good investment for us – offering low total acquisition cost and high return of investment,” Sujadi added. Just recently, PT Pionir Beton Industri won a big order with a MRT contractor and was due to acquire another unit in the first half of 2016.
