The 2014 EIG Scholarship Award was presented to Kieran Blacker for his extractive industry research at a recent University of Leicester, England, geological society lecture.
The Extractive Industry Geology (EIG) award was presented by EIG organising committee secretary Clive Mitchell, and was made in recognition of Kieran’s excellent research, “understanding the degradation of stone by new mineral growth,” which he carried out while an undergraduate at the University of Liverpool.
This was the theme of the presentation that Kieran gave at the EIG 2014 conference at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, which was the deciding factor in presenting Kieran with the 2014 award.
Dr Alan Boyle, Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Science, University of Liverpool said: “He is one of the best final year students I have supervised. The project was a lot of fun and hopefully he is writing it up for publication. Well done Kieran”.
The award was made at one of the regular PCSB geological society evening lectures at the University of Leicester where Kieran is now a PhD student.
