Increased productivity, safety and operator comfort are said to be offered by Komatsu's upgrades to the PC800-8 and PC800LC-8 excavators. The company has said that it has also increased the functionality of its Komtrax machine information system on the machines. The machines weigh in at between 78.8 and 84.7tonnes depending on the specification but are all powered by a 370kW Komastu engine. Low external noise levels are achieved by using a hybrid blade variable speed cooling fan.

Increased productivity, safety and operator comfort are said to be offered by Komatsu’s upgrades to the PC800-8 and PC800LC-8 excavators.

The machines are equipped with two working modes, Power and Economy, and each mode matches engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific application requirements, giving the operator flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. Economy mode features four level settings, allowing the operator to achieve required production with the lowest possible fuel consumption. The Heavy Lift mode gives the operator 10% more lifting force on the boom when needed to handle large rocks. The one-touch Power Max function temporarily increases digging force by almost 10%, helping to drive through difficult obstructions.

Bucket capacities up to 6.9m³ can be installed, depending on boom and arm length, material density, and application conditions.

The Komtrax updates include energy saving reports with tips for a more fuel efficient operation, location, cautions, load ratio, and maintenance alerts. According to Komatsu, the system which relays information via web application helps to increase machine availability, reduce the risk of theft and improve efficiency.

The addition of the rear view camera with an integrated feed into the widescreen monitor panel enhances site safety without compromising the view from the cab windows.
