Grants totalling £17,000 (€21,600) from building materials firm Lafarge are helping provide super new facilities at a County Staffordshire, England, cricket club. The three donations, made by Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK through the Landfill Communities Fund, have contributed to a new cricket square, purchase of mobile wicket covers and a state-of-the-art mower for Alrewas Cricket Club.
Grants totalling £17,000 (€21,600) from building materials firm Lafarge are helping provide super new facilities at a County Staffordshire, England, cricket club.
The three donations, made by Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK through the Landfill Communities Fund, have contributed to a new cricket square, purchase of mobile wicket covers and a state-of-the-art mower for Alrewas Cricket Club.
Tim Aston, secretary and a player at the club said: “Our club has played at its Walkfield ground since 1879 and so is a long established and well respected club in the area.
“Today we have three senior teams, a number of junior teams for children over ten and a beginners’ section for under-10s called The Herons.
“We also organise the Orme Cup a popular annual community cricket contest which attracts teams from pubs and clubs in the parish and an annual ladies 6-a-side competition, both of which raise money for local charities.
“But obviously over time and as a busy club our playing facilities and equipment have both deteriorated so we are hugely grateful to Lafarge for their support in helping us to make improvements which are making a real difference at the club.”
