Every summer, the French capital transforms itself into a tropical oasis: palm trees, water games and deck chairs. And there is even a beach, thanks to the 5,000tonnes of sand delivered by the Lafarge Group.
Organised by Paris City Hall, the Paris Plages operation is now settled on the banks of the Seine until 18 August.
“Parisians and visitors can enjoy nice walks, as well as numerous water sports and other cultural activities. And there will be something for everyone, as even toddlers can have fun with Lafarge giant cubes,” says Lafarge, the French-based global company
“As partner of the Paris Plages operation since the beginning (2001), we contribute to make the French capital a more beautiful and welcoming city throughout the summer.”
To reach its destination the sand travelled 175km over two days by river transport, with three barges and one towboat being required for delivery.
The maximum diameter of a grain of the sand is 2mm.
