Lafarge triumphed at the ‘Oscars’ of the fleet industry after impressing judges with its proactive safety and sustainability schemes, says the company. It was named Fleet of the Year in the 501-1,000 vehicle category in the contest organised by trade publication, Fleet News. Lafarge triumphed at the ‘Oscars’ of the fleet industry after impressing judges with its proactive safety and sustainability schemes, says the company.
It was named Fleet of the Year in the 501-1,000 vehicle category in the contest organised by trade publication, Fleet News.
Rebecca Chivers, UK car fleet advisor for Lafarge (UK) Services, picked up the honour during a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. She is responsible for the fleet for both Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK and Lafarge Cement.

“It was an amazing night and I felt truly privileged to accept the award on behalf of everyone at Lafarge.
“These awards are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the fleet world so even being nominated is an achievement, but to go on and win is absolutely fantastic and a real testament to all our hard work.”
As part of the awards process she worked with strategic sourcing manager Mark Giannasi and lease provider GE on an initial submission.
“I told the judges about the range of initiatives we had introduced over the last 12 months, particularly around safety and sustainability.
“Our driver training programme for instance is aimed at improving motoring skills, raising safety awareness and reducing accidents.
“At Lafarge our aim is zero harm, so we do everything we can to ensure our employees work safely and that includes when they are on the road in a company vehicle.
“Limiting our impact on the environment is also a key priority and we are continuously striving to operate as sustainably as possible. Our carbon emissions reduction measures will continue year-on-year as part of this commitment to the environment.
“We moved to diesel-only in 2010, introduced hybrids to our fleet late last year and also in 2010 implemented a yearly driver survey.”
