Phil Layton has begun his new two-year term as president of the Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE).
Layton, who is also the technical service director at JCB, has more than 30 years of experience across the engineering and manufacturing sectors across global markets, including India.
Layton started the role earlier this month and has outlined his objectives for his tenure, including supporting global trade and delivering a competitive regulatory framework for European construction equipment manufacturers.
“The European construction equipment industry needs clear, workable rules and a strong global outlook,” he said.
“CECE has a vital role to play in supporting decarbonisation, open markets and innovation, while providing policymakers with practical, industry-driven solutions.”
During Layton’s tenure, the CECE is looking to support the publication of the secondary legislation on road circulation of construction machinery and the guidance document for the implementation of the machinery regulation. The organisation is also preparing for the CECE Congress which takes place from 27-29 October in London. The future-focused event includes industry leaders and policy makers from around the world.
Construction Equipment Association chief executive officer Viki Bell said Layton’s experience and skillset would be valuable in his new role.
“Phil’s appointment as CECE President is excellent news for both the UK and the wider European construction equipment sector,” she said.
“He brings deep technical knowledge, international experience and a very practical understanding of how our industry works on the ground.
“From a CEA perspective, it is hugely positive to see a UK representative in this role at a time when issues such as decarbonisation, regulation and global trade really matter. Phil is well placed to give our sector a clear, credible voice with policymakers and to drive progress that genuinely supports manufacturers across Europe.”
