Stolz has reinforced its company fleet with four new L 580 XPower wheeled loaders for its western Germany-based quarrying operations.

“During hard operation, the wheeled loaders consume only 14 litres of diesel, 30 percent less than our wheeled loaders of the same size class from another well-known manufacturer,” said Stolz firm owner Dieter Stolz.

The quartet of new L 580 XPower models are deployed for duty in the four lava and basalt quarries of the Stolz company in Hillesheim, Daun, Kirchweiler and Walsdorf, western Germany.

Dieter Stolz has specialised in the quarrying and processing of volcanic slag (lava and basalt), an ideal raw material for road and sports ground construction that the Stolz company processes as a substrate. The new Liebherr wheeled loaders are used for filling the crushing and sieving plant and for loading the final products and substrates. Each processes up to 2,000tonnes/day of material.

Liebherr says a customer survey has shown that the average fuel consumption of the XPower L 550, L 556 and L 566 wheeled loaders ranges from nine to 12 litres of diesel/operating hour.

For the XPower models L 576, L 580 and the largest Liebherr wheeled loader, the 32.6tonne L 586 XPower, the average diesel consumption under tough conditions is claimed to range from 12 to 16 litres of diesel/operating hour.

The basis for the claimed efficient fuel figures, says Liebherr, is the stage IV conform power-split driveline which Liebherr installs in all XPower wheeled loaders as standard. It combines a hydrostatic drive, said to be ideal for short loading cycles, with a mechanical drive, which in turn shows its benefits on long routes and  when driving uphill. The proven Liebherr Power Efficiency system is said to play a key role in this.
