The world is changing rapidly – from the highly increasing urbanization to a lack of natural resources, leading to manifestation of circular economy. The global issues bring daily challenges for quarries and crushing contractors. Reducing the environmental burden

Metso Outotec has introduced several enhancements for its Lokotrack® offering, and together, these actions in Lokotrack design have an impact of 20 000 tonnes of carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction annually, equivalent to the amount of CO2 produced by 7,000 diesel cars per year.
Entering hybrid
As aggregate producers continue to seek ways to run sustainable crushing and screening operations, hybrid crushing and screening solutions are playing a more significant role. With their ability to have both electricity and diesel as power sources, hybrids provide aggregate producers with both compliance in urban operating environments and flexibility in the middle of nowhere.
“Hybrid solutions are fitted with an electric/hydraulic drive system that can be connected to an external electricity supply once the machine has been set up on site. These machines can also be fitted with an onboard generator, allowing the operator to power the machine electrically, even where there is no grid connection. Typically, the price of electricity is lower compared to that of diesel, so there are significant savings in operating costs,” says Kimmo Anttila, who is heading the Lokotrack Solutions Product Line at Metso Outotec.
“Our logic is to have the best of both worlds, with electric units catering for urban environments with access to the grid, and at the same time we have modern, low-emission diesel units providing the autonomy to operate in remote locations,” he adds.
