Longcliffe Quarries has welcomed John Bradshaw to its team as group planning and estates manager.

UK-based Longcliffe operates two limestone quarries in Derbyshire, supplying a range of over 100 high purity calcium carbonate products for markets including animal feeds and glass manufacture.

Bradshaw brings more than 35 years of estates and planning expertise, and has been a Chartered Mineral Surveyor since 1990. He has held a range of planning and estates roles across the private and public sector, beginning as planning officer at Forest of Dean District Council in 1987.

Apart from that role and a year working for Manchester Ship Canal Company, his work has focused on quarrying, cement and industrial sites. He has held a number of roles from assistant estate surveyor, through to strategic planning manager.  His experience come from working right across the country on planning and estates projects on sites from the West and East Midlands to North and South Wales, Scotland and the North West to his more recent base in Derbyshire.

For several years until the end of December 2023, his work was focused on mineral continuity projects for limestone quarries in Derbyshire. This work included engagement with external landholders, and public and statutory stakeholders.

Commenting on his appointment, Bradshaw said: “I am pleased to be able to offer my knowledge and experience to such a highly respected family-owned Derbyshire-based business. Just a few weeks in, I am already seeing the passion and pride of the team at Longcliffe as they continue to maintain their position as a leading supplier of superior calcium carbonate products.”

He replaces Martin Clayton who has worked closely with Longcliffe for the last nine years, securing various planning permissions and resolving numerous quarrying challenges.

Longcliffe Group MD Paul Boustead added: “John brings a strong set of skills to our business at a crucial time. We are embarking on a project to extend one of our quarries with the aim of protecting our supply of high purity calcium carbonate products into the future. We welcome John to his new role and wish Martin a long and enjoyable retirement and thank him for his commitment and service to Longcliffe.”
