Expo is a platform for launching objectives for a sustainable millennium, and the ideas, solutions and projects proposed within the scope of Energy for Creativity (including the Digital Lithic Design installation) “seek to nourish the mind and creativity through a focus on improvements in the living environment of individual urban communities and the harmonious development of the entire population of the world.”
Developed by designer and curator Raffaello Galiotto, Digital Lithic Design looks deeper into marble as a natural material that cannot be reproduced and must therefore be processed, while equally limiting waste and use of energy.
“New technologies can make an important contribution, if they are involved in the creative-design process, towards the production of items with strong three-dimensionality and complexity with minimal waste of resources. The exhibition aims to highlight, through a number of works, the potential of technological excellence, processing capacity and creativity in the Italian natural stone industry,” says Marmomacc.
“As the heir to an ancient marble working tradition, Italy still ranks as a landmark capable of merging design, technology and processing skills. New computer-controlled engineering systems and digital design today define a new frontier for this ancient material, thereby opening up new ways for designing and working natural stone.”
The works were processed by seven industry leaders, Antolini, Budri, Decormarmi, Intermac, Lithos Design, Odone Angelo and Omag, and Digital Lithic Design, set up in the courtyard of the University of Milan during the show, will be the first prestigious appointment in the run-up to the 50th Marmomacc, the International Exhibition of Stone Design and Technology scheduled this year from 30 September-3 October.
