Kings Lynn, eastern England- based Middleton Aggregates has taken a package of five machines from Volvo Construction Equipment for its contracting and hire fleet. The five machines are part of a natural replacement programme and include a 16tonne EW160D wheeled excavator with two-piece boom; an ECR145D short radius crawler excavator; an EC28 (2.8tonnes); an ECR58 (short radius 5.8tonnes) and a DD24 tandem roller.

All five machines have been deployed on a range of contracting and plant hire projects that Middleton Aggregates is actively involved in, ranging from major groundworks on sewerage projects for Barhale to fuel pipeline replacement projects on military airfields for Spiecapag, part of the Vinci Group.

We’ve been running Volvo equipment for many years now and primarily the after market support we’ve received over this time together with good product reliability made our decision to replace like with like an easy one,” says plantm Gary Slingsby.

In total Middleton Aggregates runs 83 individual items of mobile plant in its contracting and hire fleet and according to Slingsby a third comprises Volvo branded equipment, all of which is supported by Volvo’s blue service agreements.

Middleton Aggregates was established in the late 1970s under the trading name of J W Lemon and operated as a haulage contractor. The company’s activities subsequently expanded to include quarry operations and the retailing of minerals throughout Counties Norfolk, South Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire becoming limited in 1986. Further acquisitions took place during the 1990s, and in 1998 Gary Slingsby joined the group and has continued to develop its contracting and plant hire activities.
