A new Terex Finlay J-1170 is said to be driving forward increased performance with reduced running costs at a family-owned plant hire company.

The jaw crusher arrived at MJ Teale Plant Hire’s site in county Lancashire, England, in the summer, and was supplied by Finlay Central, part of the Finlay Group of companies.

The waste management company, which also offers recycled aggregates and bulk soil disposal services, is processing construction and demolition waste and producing a 6F2 crushed material at a rate of 200tonnes/hour for the North-West construction market.

“Not only have we seen a saving in the amount of fuel we’re using but also in the amount of downtime,” says Mick Teale, managing director of MJ Teale Plant Hire.

“We’re definitely crushing material quicker and seeing a cleaner end product as well.

“As a company we’re growing all of the time and this machine is proving to be much more cost effective for us.

“We had the machine out on demonstration and we were impressed with what we saw and it was competitively priced.

“Knowing that we would have the service and back-up from Finlay Central was a real reassurance too.”

The Terex Finlay J-1170 tracked primary jaw crusher  features a heavy-duty, variable speed VGF and integrated pre-screen.

At the heart of the machine is a robust, hydrostatically driven Terex jaw chamber that provides high capacity with large reduction ratios.

This is the first machine that the business has had from Finlay Central, and Neil Partington, managing director of Finlay Central, helped MJ Teale Plant Hire specify the plant.

“It’s brilliant to see the machine working so well on the site,” he says.

“MJ Teale Plant Hire is growing and getting busier and the J-1170 will help them with that.

“The automated, variable speed VGF makes sure that there is a continuous feed to the crushing chamber which provides optimal production.”

Mick Teale established MJ Teale Plant Hire 45 years ago, when he was 21 years old, starting out with one wagon, and four decades later the business employs 40 people; achieves zero per cent to landfill, and operates over 50 different plant and machinery.

Mick’s 19-year old son, Josh Teale has been with the company for 12 months as a trainee site manager.

“The industry is constantly growing and it’s important for us to keep up-to-date with the latest machinery and also think to the future,” he says.

“As part of this we’re planning to install biomass boilers to become even more efficient as a business.”

The company also has a sister company, Blackpool Skip Hire, run by Mick Teale’s nephew, Anthony McGill and colleague Kenny Stephenson.

Both businesses joined forces 15 years ago, with the merger creating one of the region’s leading waste management and recycling companies.
