The Moroccan national investment company SNI and cement group LarfageHolcim are strengthening their partnership.

They are reported to be setting up LafargeHolcim Maroc via the merging of Lafarge Ciments and Holcim Maroc, and by creating a subsidiary dubbed LH Maroc Afrique, which will operate in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.

This project should come about in the third-quarter of 2016. It will turn the SNI into a pan-African long-term investment fund and hasten the development of LafargeHolcim on the continent.

Regarding LafargeHolcim Maroc, Lafarge Maroc, in which LafargeHolcim and SNI have the same amount of shares, will be the leading shareholder.

The combined turnover of both entities will exceed MAD 8 billion (€735.83 million/US$820.81 million).

The creation of LafargeHolcim Maroc still needs the green-light from the Moroccan capital markets authority.

As for LH Maroc Afrique, it will be entirely held by Lafarge Maroc, and will aim to invest in clinker and cement production and develop synergies with LafargeHolcim Maroc, mainly via cement or clinker exports from Morocco.
