Aggregate Industries’ concrete depot in Harlow, county Essex, south-east England, has been praised for the “highly-valuable contribution”’ it is making to the region’s construction industry.

The praise came during a visit to the site by Robert Halfon, who has been a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Harlow since 2010.

He visited the depot near Harlow Mill Station to meet the concrete production team and see the site, which supplies up to 30,000m³ of concrete/year from its state-of-the-art double batch plant.

The successful visit also involved a round table discussion between Mr Halfon and key Aggregate Industries’ staff, including Vicky Smith, area m anager for Asphalt and ReadyMix, on a range of important issues including the National Planning Policy Framework; apprenticeships, and the M11 junction 7b development (a motorway improvement scheme in the area).

Vicky Smith said: “We were delighted that Mr Halfon was able to join us at our Harlow site and see first-hand how the concrete we produce supplies many of region’s most high-profile construction projects.

“Crucial to the success of these projects is having a coherent National Planning Policy Framework, which is one of topics that was discussed with Mr Halfon, who understood the importance of having a comprehensive policy for managing the supply of aggregate locally and nationally.”

Robert Halfon MP, said: “I’d like to say thank you to Aggregate Industries for inviting me to visit their Harlow site and its incredible facilities, which provide a highly-valuable contribution to the local community and the region’s construction industry. The visit was a great success, with the round table providing much food for thought on how the government’s ambitious reforms to planning policy can be as effective as possible.”
