MPA supports Vision Zero safety initiative with further resources

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has added new features to the toolkit available to help members promote its Vision Zero safety initiative within their organisations.

Vision Zero was launched at the MPA & British Precast Health and Safety Leadership Conference in November 2020. It focuses on the aim of eliminating the causes of the ‘The Fatal 6′ – the high consequence hazards that are responsible for the majority of fatalities and incidents within the mineral products industry.

The newly-added resources are an Employee Guide to Vision Zero, a pocket card and three new Vision Zero PowerPoint presentations.

The MPA says the success of Vision Zero will be dependent on individuals within the mineral products industry understanding what Vision Zero is, why it is important and their role in delivering it.

Chris Leese, director – MPA UK concrete and special advisor – health & safety, said: “Vision Zero was developed by the senior managers, owners and H&S experts within our membership. They have recognised that changing behaviour and focussing on those activities that are most likely to kill or seriously injure us at work will be essential to achieve a further step change in our health and safety performance.

“MPA’s role is to support our members in delivering Vision Zero and measuring our progress over the next five years. These resources will help our members to raise awareness of all aspects of Vision Zero at every level within their organisation. Please use them and share with your colleagues”

The suite of resources is accessible via the Safequarry and Safeprecast websites.

The three new presentations available are: PowerPoint summarising Vision Zero; PowerPoint focussing on the Core H&S Values in Vision Zero; PowerPoint focussing on ‘The Fatal 6’ in Vision Zero.

The MPA says the PowerPoints could be used as a toolbox talk, management update or with any audience that you wish to raise awareness and understanding of Vision Zero. The notes have been designed to help the presenter to facilitate interaction and to encourage the audience to think about how Vision Zero might apply in their work environment.  The PowerPoints can be amended or rebranded to meet the specific needs of the presenter.
