Metso Outotec is cutting 254 jobs in Finland as part of a business restructuring following the recent merger of Metso's Minerals business with Outotec

The job reductions were announced following the conclusion of employee co-operation negotiations.

In a statement, Metso Outotec stated that its new organisational model aims to ensure efficient business operations, respond to customer needs, reduce overlaps of the two previous organisations and meet set synergy targets.

The statement added: “When the [employee co-operation] negotiations started on July 8, 2020, the estimated need for reduction was a maximum of 280 permanent jobs. As a result of the negotiations, Metso Outotec will reduce a total of 254 jobs in Finland. Of these, 87 are permanent jobs through redundancies and the rest through other arrangements, such as non-renewal of fixed-term contracts, retirement arrangements and voluntary resignations."

Metso Outotec says that job reductions due to the restructuring of operations will affect nearly all company locations in Finland.
