European Commission probably approves merger of Holcim and Lafarge

According to insiders, the merger of Swiss cement group Holcim and French industrial company Lafarge will probably be approved by the European Commission. However, it is reported that it could be possible that the companies will have to sell one or two parts. Holcim and Lafarge have already put some divisions up for sale in different countries amounting to several millions of Euro.

According to insiders, the merger of Swiss cement group 680 Holcim and French industrial company 725 Lafarge will probably be approved by the 1022 European Commission.

However, it is reported that it could be possible that the companies will have to sell one or two parts.

Holcim and Lafarge have already put some divisions up for sale in different countries amounting to several millions of Euro.

The merger is planned to be completed in the first half of 2015.

The Commission will publicly announce its decision on 15 December 2015.

A Lafarge spokesperson confirmed that eight anti-trust authorities have already approved the transaction, which includes Russia, South Africa and Turkey among others.
