The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Interim CEO Michele Stanley issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) final rule to repeal the greenhouse gas (GHG) measure.
By repealing this measure, FHWA will remove regulations that, if implemented, would have required state DOTs and MPOs to undertake administrative activities to establish declining GHG targets, calculate their progress toward their selected targets, report to FHWA, and determine a plan of action to make progress toward their selected targets if they fail to make significant progress during a performance period.
“NSSGA applauds the U.S. Department of Transportation’s deregulatory move to repeal the greenhouse gas emission rule that would have caused unnecessary and costly delays for infrastructure projects,” said NSSGA Interim CEO Michele Stanley. “Aggregates facilities are heavily regulated before, during and after operation at the local, state, and federal level. NSSGA members support reasonable regulations based upon the law and sound science that allow the timely extraction of materials vital for infrastructure projects, but objected to this rule, which would have been redundant, burdensome and lacked statutory authority from Congress.”
