The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has announced the winners of the Safety Excellence Awards, the Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Awards and the James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year Award.

We congratulate this year’s winners of the Safety Awards, as they represent the best of our industry in taking every step possible to provide a safe working environment for our most precious resource – our people,” said NSSGA President & CEO Michael Johnson.
The Safety Excellence Awards recognise operations that maintain a safe workplace, evidenced by its safety performance over a consecutive period without an MSHA-reportable injury. The Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Awards recognise NSSGA member companies with the lowest total accident incidence rate for the previous year in their size category. The James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year Award annually recognises an individual for substantial commitment and contributions to safe and healthy practices within their company – and the industry.
During the Legislative & Policy Forum, the Gold Winners in Safety Excellence and the Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Awards were announced. The 2022 James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year was awarded to Chris May, the Vice President of Safety and Environmental Operations for Americas Materials Division with CRH. She serves as the Chair of NSSGA’s Safety and Health Committee and is known for managing the NSSGA sustainability task force from 2013 to 2021.
