LafargeHolcim in the US has rebranded its cement portfolio and is calling on the engineering community to adopt solutions that lower carbon emissions.

The cement manufacturer has re-branded its portfolio of blended cements and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) as the Envirocore Series.

The Envirocore Series includes OneCem Portland Limestone Cement, MaxCem Blended Cement and NewCem Slag Cement.

Swedish bearing supplier SKF is investing around $60 million to strengthen its manufacturing operations in North America.

SKF is to invest SEK $38m in expanding and automating manufacturing processes at the group’s factory in Sumter, South Carolina.

It will also utilise $21m in localising manufacturing of Tapered Roller Bearings from China to an existing manufacturing site in Mexico.

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) has recognised Lehigh Hanson's director of occupational health & systems Robin Markussen for her work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Markussen – a member of the NSSGA safety and health committee and the technical advisory committee – received the James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year Award during the virtual Legislature and Policy Forum.

Ash Grove is upgrading its Port Manatee deep water import terminal in Florida to improve its capacity to import cement, cement slag and fly ash. Ash Grove regional president Monica Manolas, says: “The upgrade of the Port Manatee import terminal will expand our capabilities and strengthen our ability to meet growing demand in the region.”

The NSSGA says the awards recognise producers’ achievements in enhancing the public’s perception of the industry and the individual producer’s operation through their community involvement.

StonePoint Materials has acquired River Aggregates in a move which it says will complement its Louisiana-based sand and gravel producer Southern Aggregates.

StonePoint CEO Colin Oerton says: “River provides an excellent starting point for StonePoint’s westward expansion into Texas.”

River operates two sand and gravel facilities serving Houston and Beaumont, Texas. The company's leaders Rob Van Til and Carl Davis will join StonePoint.
