PPC, a South African cement major, has appointed Matias Cardarelli as the company's new CEO. He replaces Roland van Wijen, whose contract expired on 31 August 2023 but has been extended to 31 December 2023 to allow for a smooth handover and transition.
Cardarelli brings to PPC vast experience in the cement industry, having served across several emerging markets. Having spent the past five years in South Africa as CEO and chairman of Natal Portland Cement (NPC), he already has a deep understanding of the local market.
At NPC, he successfully transformed the organisation by improving efficiencies, boosting margins and EBITDA, as well as increasing cash generation.
“With his deep understanding of the local industry and his proven leadership skillset, Cardarelli will play a pivotal role in continuing to drive PPC’s growth, improve profitability and enhance returns,” says the company.
