British Precast, the trade body for the UK concrete products industry, has welcomed a decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland, to allow precast suppliers to the London 2012 Games to promote their involvement under the Supplier Recognition Scheme SRS).
Until the decision the involvement of Dow as a major Games sponsor had precluded concrete and its constituent materials from receiving licences under the scheme.
“I am very grateful to the staff of the British Olympic Association (BOA) and its Supplier Recognition Scheme for agreeing to take our case with their support to the IOC and for securing a positive decision,” says British Precast chief executive Martin Clarke.
“Barbara Gill of the BOA is acting incredibly swiftly to implement the decision and eight licences have now been granted to Aggregate Industries; Brett Landscaping; Bell & Webster; Stanton Bonna; Evans Concrete Products; Marshalls Mono; Techrete and Thorp Precast
“I am encouraging the other 12 members who supplied the London Games to apply for an SRS licence forthwith.”
A BOA spokesperson said: “The BOA has worked closely with the International Olympic Committee and we are delighted that we are now in a position to grant Supplier Recognition Scheme licences to precast concrete suppliers, recognising the important role the industry played in the staging of the Games.
We are committed to ensuring as many British businesses as possible benefit from the Supplier Recognition Scheme and we are now in the process of reaching out to other members of the precast concrete community who are eligible for the Scheme.”
