Sandvik unveiled its latest electric train of tracked mobile crushers and screens earlier in the year, marking another transformative step in its sustainable rock processing journey.
Comprising of the UJ443E heavy duty jaw crusher, New QH443E cone crusher, and QA452e triple-deck Doublescreen, this innovative lineup is engineered to deliver significant reductions in operating costs while enhancing productivity and environmental performance.
At the heart of Sandvik’s electric train is a commitment to lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) for operators in mining, quarrying, and recycling industries. By integrating electric drives with track mobility, Sandvik’s new generation of machines offer a compelling alternative to traditional diesel-powered systems.
Fuel and oil savings drive down operating costs
The QH443E is the latest addition to the electric train, its Sandvik’s flagship Q-Range electric driven cone plant. It combines the latest generation Sandvik CH440 Hydrocone, with Constant Liner Performance (CLP), Hydroset CSS adjustment, together with the plants Optik™ automation system and My Fleet remote monitoring.
All main components are electrically driven, improving energy efficiency and reducing the need for hydraulic oil on board (by as much as 78% over 10,000 hrs, subject to oil sampling).
Fuel saving via the onboard genset can amount to around 16% when compared to a similar sized diesel-powered unit with direct drive. Further saving of up to 25% can be achieved when connecting with the mains grid & displacing the onboard genset subject to local grid electricity costs. These savings translate directly into lower operating expenses and reduced environmental impact.
The QH443E combines electric drive technology and tracked mobility together on one platform and has been designed with safety, sustainability and total cost of ownership in mind.
Similarly, the UJ443E jaw crusher delivers up to 25% lower fuel consumption, a 91% reduction in hydraulic oil usage over 10,000 hrs subject to oil sampling and up to 30%* increase in throughput compared to previous models, thanks to its fully electric track drives, fully electric drivetrain and new feed-station with enlarged grizzlies for increased scalping before the crusher.
The QA452e Doublescreen complements the train with hybrid drive technology, offering up to 30% improved screening performance over traditional single screens and the flexibility to allow customers to choose their preferred energy source.
Grid connectivity and shared power enhance efficiency
One of the standout features of Sandvik’s electric train is its ability to connect to external power sources. This not only reduces fuel dependency but also extends service intervals, lowers noise levels, and minimizes onsite emissions. Additionally, the crusher’s onboard alternator is sized to power downstream equipment, enabling operators to run additional units from a single genset. This setup can yield up to 20%* further fuel savings by displacing smaller engines & gensets downstream, simplifying maintenance further and reducing downtime.
Sandvik’s electric train is particularly well-suited for demanding environments such as large quarries and mining operations. The modular design and advanced automation systems, featuring Optik™ and My Fleet remote monitoring, ensure optimal performance, safety, and uptime. Operators benefit from precise control over production parameters, real-time diagnostics, and predictive maintenance capabilities.
A sustainable investment for the future
“Completing our latest tracked electric train marks another significant step towards a more sustainable and cost-effective future for the crushing and screening industry,” said Manny Maloney, President of Sandvik Mobile Crushing and Screening Division. “This technology is designed not only to reduce environmental impact but also to improve the profitability and efficiency of our customers’ operations.”
This additional electric train complements Sandvik’s existing wheeled and heavy-duty electric offering, ensuring that customers have access to a complete portfolio of solutions tailored for their diverse crushing and screening needs.
