U.S. marketable phosphate rock production in April was estimated to be 1.71 million metric tons (Mt), 6% higher than that in March and 7% higher than that in April 2024.
Further USGS figures reveal that total production in January to April 2025 was estimated to be 6.56 Mt, 4% higher than the revised amount in the same period of 2024.
Phosphate rock sold or used in the United States in April was estimated to be 1.55 Mt, 11% lower than that in March and slightly lower than that in April 2024. Total sold or used in January through April was estimated to be 6.81 Mt, 7% higher than the revised amount in the same period of 2024. U.S. producer stocks were estimated to be 10.3 Mt, 10% higher than those in March and 8% higher than those in April 2024.
Imports of phosphate rock in April were 271,000 tonnes, unchanged from March and 17% higher than those in April 2024. Total imports in January through April were 1.13 Mt, which were 3% lower than those in the same period of 2024. Imports of phosphate rock can vary substantially from month to month based on sales contracts and production schedules of the phosphate plants.
Estimated apparent consumption for 2025, based on annualised sold or used and import data, was 24.2 Mt, compared with 22.4 Mt in 2024.
