Ritchie Bros. held a multi-million Euro, record-breaking auction at its site in St. Aubin sur Gaillon, northern France.
The auction on 3 March 2015 attracted more than 1,575 on-site and online bidders from 70+ countries, which is a new record for the company’s auctions in France. “Our first France auction of 2015 featured a large number of premium quality units, which helped attract our biggest crowd ever,” said Michel Schietequatte, regional sales manager at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world’s largest industrial auctioneer. “Both in our auction theater as well as live over the internet we saw intense bidding competition throughout the day, resulting in strong prices across all equipment categories. We also welcomed hundreds of first-time visitors, who saw the speed and global reach of Ritchie Bros. auctions first hand.”
Equipment highlights included four 2012 Caterpillar 773G 4×2 rock trucks, three of which sold for €400,000 each and one for €410,000; 55 articulated dump trucks, including 15 Volvo A40F’s which sold for up to €250,000 each; and 24 crawler tractors, including a 2011 Caterpillar D8T that sold for €325,000.
The record-breaking auction included more than 80 items from French contractor Eiffage Travaux Publics (ETP).
“Selling this many equipment items at once can be a challenge for any construction company, but it was needed for us with the absence of major projects in France at the moment,” said Xavier Barthelemy, ETP’s equipment director. “I was impressed to see such a big international crowd bidding on our equipment. With this auction, Ritchie Bros. demonstrated once more it can build a professional auction like no other in the industry, bringing in qualified buyers from all over the world and achieving the highest possible selling prices. We’re very pleased with the result of the auction.”
