RJT Excavations (RJT), based at Jedburgh in Scotland, has purchased three new Doosan DA30 articulated dump trucks (ADTs) from James Gordon (Gordons), the local authorised dealer for the Doosan construction equipment range.

Prior to placing the DA30 order, Euan Heard, RJT assistant plant manager, and the site team from RJT Excavations carried out extensive trials at Doosan’s proving ground in the Czech Republic and on its site in the UK.

It is the first time RJT has bought a Doosan product and before doing so it put the DA30 to the test in challenging and varied ground conditions matching the expected environment that they will be required to operate in.

“RJT’s on site team has nothing but positive feedback on the build quality, load capacity, traction in poor conditions, operator comfort, manoeuvrability and fast cycle times offered by the DA30 ADTs,” says Kim Dudley, Doosan regional manager, Northern Europe.

Being new to the Doosan brand and to Gordons, RJT’s main concern was aftersales support for breakdowns, service and parts.

RJT says that these questions were more than satisfactorily answered by Gordons and backed up by Doosan’s five-year/10,000hour warranty on the ADTs.

“Being a contractor, downtime is a major concern to RJT,” says Euan Heard.

“Gordon’s excellent network coverage and the Doosan manufacturer’s warranty has given us peace of mind for the long term and we look forward to a good working relationship with Gordons and Doosan.”

The Doosan DA30 is powered by the Scania DC9 276kW diesel engine, meeting the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emission regulations using selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technologies, with an electronic engine brake system, one of four brake systems on the truck.

Doosan’s Stage IV/Tier 4 Final ADTs do not need a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet the emission regulations.

RJT was formed in 1989 by Robert James Turnbull as an earthworks and general groundworks contractor based at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders and has grown to become one of the UK’s top contractors with its portfolio including specialised plant and equipment; bulk earthworks; groundworks; stabilisation; remediation; contract crushing, and other plant-orientated activities.

It runs a state-of-the-art fleet of over 50 items of heavy plant along with experienced operators and supervisors enabling the company to tailor plant to match client requirements.

The company can also offer a wider range of civil engineering services, including roads, drainage, foundations, surfacing and street lighting.
