Roberto Stark has been awarded the 2024 Cemex Lorenzo H. Zambrano Award, which recognises his lasting impact on the construction industry in Mexico, his commitment to sustainability, and his dedication to training the next generation of engineers.

With over 45 years of experience in Structural Engineering, Stark graduated as a civil engineer from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1978. A year later, he joined the university as a professor, where he continued to teach courses on concrete structures and structural analysis.

Stark earned his master’s and doctorate in Structural Engineering from the University of Illinois. Additionally, to his work at UNAM, he has taught courses on structural steel, reinforced concrete, precast concrete, prestressed concrete, and masonry for both new and existing buildings at various universities worldwide.

At 65, Stark has contributed to evaluating and designing structures for financial institutions, the U.S. government, and several international firms, including HOK and GCA.

He is also an active member of several committees within the American Concrete Institute and the Mexican Society of Structural Engineering.

Stark’s extensive expertise is reflected in the design of the Koi Tower, the second-tallest building in Mexico.

A leading voice in Structural Engineering today, Stark received the Roberto Meli Medal for Practice and Innovation from the Mexican Society of Seismic Engineering in 2023. The prestigious Lorenzo H. Zambrano Award now joins this recognition.
