The Sandvik Digital Assistant (SAM) has received an “enthusiastic response” following its recent launch into Africa at the Electra Mining Africa Exhibition.
The product was unveiled to a wide range of industry experts from around the continent impressed by its benefits for the crushing and screening value sector.
As a digital assistant for daily operations, SAM has been equipped to provide customers with tools, information and guidance in one place.
“There is no doubt that the local market is ready for SAM, judging from the enthusiastic response we have had from customers,” said Ali Jumaa, digital product manager for Sandvik Rock Processing.
“Mines are looking to work smarter, and SAM provides this ability to operators, technicians, purchasing departments and managers alike.”
Jumma said the company has developed SAM to deliver a proactive user journey that provides support through the various steps in the customer’s relationship with the original equipment manufacturer.
“For instance, maintenance and site managers can track their equipment’s performance in real-time from the convenience of a laptop, tablet or mobile phone,” he said.
“At the same time, the mine’s purchasing department can access the SAM webshop to find the correct part numbers, create shopping lists and submit orders.”
SAM has a wide range of users for much more than just customers. Service technicians can use the platform to find critical information including documentation and manuals for equipment. Operators can use SAM to help increase operational uptime and availability.
Customers can also access the operating data from the crusher, which is collected by sensors and stored in cloud storage. The data can then be analysed and used to improve performance. For example, Customers can see how long a crusher has been operational or idling.
Jumma said a major benefit to SAM for customers was how it visually represented data to the user. This is due, he said, to the platform’s interface, which is easy to use and does not require extensive training as it comes with a guide on how to use it for customers.
“The data and analysis allow customers to finetune their performance while developing more effective predictive maintenance and ensuring no unplanned stoppages,” Jumaa said.
“SAM provides customers with real-time insight into their operations supported by fact-based recommended actions that inform the most appropriate operating and maintenance strategies.”
