Sandvik says building work has started on a new mining and construction technology service centre in Luoyang, China, which will mark the company’s efforts to improve its strategies and commitment to developing the Chinese market.

The Luoyang Technology Service Centre will be the first multi-function operation base in central and western China, with facilities catering for components maintenance and storage, supply, remanufacturing and training.

“Luoyang is one of the focuses of China’s efforts to rejuvenate the equipment manufacturing industry,’ said Christopher Wright, Sandvik Mining’s president of China and Northeast Asia. “It is one of the fastest growing cities in central and western China, enjoying sound economy, resource and policy advantages.”‘

Meanwhile, in Ghana, building work has started on another new Sandvik Mining complex in Kumasi, in the southern central Ashanti region. The building will incorporate offices, a training facility, an equipment servicing and rebuild section and warehousing.

In his address to guests at a recent ceremony for the new Kumasi centre, James Oosthuizen, Sandvik Mining’s managing director and sales area manager for West Africa, described the establishment of a fully-fledged Sandvik facility in Ghana as “‘the visible beginning of a new era in the operations of Sandvik Mining in West Africa.”

Once completed, the new service centre will allow Sandvik to better serve their customers in the region as well as provide opportunities for the essential practical experience required by students at educational institutions in the area.
