Sandvik Construction is primed for growth in its mobile crusher and screen sales after major investment in new lines and production facilities. A Mobile Crushers and Screens Global Dealer Conference, involving more than 90 dealers from all over the world, held earlier this month at the Swedish firm’s Ballygawley production facility in Northern Ireland included the global launch of Sandvik’s new QE441 scalper and QA335 Doublescreen.

At a trade press event during the conference, senior Sandvik figures also outlined how the company had last year successfully transferred its mobile crushing and screening production capabilities from Swadlincote, county Derbyshire, England to Ballygawley. They also revealed how Sandvik is investing €2.095 million (£1.6 million) in a new state-of-the-art paint shop at the Northern Irish facility.

Speaking at the trade press event, Eugene Lyons, global sales and marketing director for Sandvik Constriction Mobile Crushers and Screens, said: “The markets are changing; the industry is changing, and we have to continue to change. New products are only part of our portfolio. We have products like the UJ440 [jaw crusher] which was built in Scandinavia and sold originally mostly in the Nordics is now being sold all over the world. There’s huge potential for the offering we have, but it has to compliment not only the existing Sandvik mobile crushers and screens, but also our drill rigs, breakers and drilling equipment, in order to satisfy the customer.”

Following on from Sandvik’s flagship QE440 scalper, the QE441has a claimed class leading total scalping area of 5.5m x 1.75m/ 5m x 1.75m allowing for huge output and includes an updated screenbox, screen drive and screen media, said to increase uptime, performance and versatility. Further improvements include upgrades to the apron plate feeder, water resistant hopper and radio remote controls, all fitted as standard.

Of the QE441, Lyons said that demand for scalpers in recent years had been driven by customers’ need for greater operational versatility. “This unit expands from our existing offering. The QE341, launched last year, is the baby brother of this machine and is a huge success for us globally. That is for two reasons. One, yes, the scalper market has increased, but it’s also from listening to our distributors and listening to the market. We have involved our key distributors in what we call a Distributor Council. We get them in and ask them what the market is looking for and what they see. The first unit that came out of that was the QE341, now we have the QE441.”

Featuring Sandvik’s patented Doublescreen technology, the QA335 is the firm’s new mid-sized unit housing a 4m x 1.5m Doublescreen featuring two independent two-deck screens, said to effectively perform two processes in one plant. The versatile QA335 also features integrated hydraulic conveyors allowing for huge stockpiling capability, a user-friendly electrical control system with sequential start up, and a fuel efficient 74.5kW engine.

The press event also heard there is growing customer interest in Sandvik Finance packages for purchasing new mobile crushers and screens. This included strong interest shown by visitors to the bauma China exhibition in Shanghai in November 2014.
