Shell has launched in France Shell Bitumen Fresh containing the award-winning Shell Bitufresh, a bitumen additive specially formulated to reduce the odour of bitumen, improving conditions for both workers and residents.

Shell Bitumen Fresh will be available to Shell Bitumen customers at no additional cost from Shell’s facilities in Nantes and Bayonne from 1 June-31 July 2016.

Unlike other products that simply mask the odour of bitumen, Shell Bitufresh works by reacting with the source of the smell to neutralise the odours.

Quentin Lefrere, cluster business manager France & Benelux at Shell Bitumen, said: “Bitumen and asphalt operations face increasing public concern about odour emissions, especially for production facilities located in urban and populated areas, which can restrict operational hours, limit bitumen use in urban areas and even require customers to modify or relocate their plants.

“Shell Bitumen Fresh is a ready-to-use, pre-dosed product that means no changes are required to the asphalt process. As a result, customers and communities benefit from an effective odour-reducing bitumen.”

Shell Bitumen Fresh is ready to use and specially formulated:

•  To reduce bitumen odours for a period of at least two weeks
•  for no impact on bitumen performance
•  to work across all bitumen grades including polymer modified bitumen and oxidised grades

Shell Bitufresh is just one of over 40 active patented bitumen and asphalt technologies. The product was named the winner of the 2015 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) by the International Road Federation (IRF) in the research category.
