Siemens has launched its Sicement electrification at the Bringing Power to Cement Industry forum in Cairo, Egypt. The system is tailored to provide the energy requirements of industrial cement plants and achieve mechanisation in manufacturing operations. In 2015, Egypt’s cement production is said to have reached 70 million tonnes, making it a major cement producing and consuming country in the Middle East and Africa, and demand is predicted to grow because of infrastructure projects in the country.

However, with energy representing about one-third of cement production costs, Egyptian cement producers are looking to reduce costs and increase production.

Siemens allows cement companies to establish power plants and manage energy consumption in the factories. It also provides mechanisation solutions to enable manufacturers to become more competitive by reducing the period of production delivery to the market, in order to achieve quicker production operations.

It is reported that Siemens presented the Sicement electrification system solutions to provide an integrated vision for electricity networks within the factories, including high-pressure electric transformers needed for connection with the national grid. The components of this system were developed to work in harmony and full integration with each other to save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
