Cilas, the joint venture set up between Lafarge-Algérie and businessman Abdennour Souakri, has awarded the contract to build the new Djamoura cement works at Biskra to Chinese firm Sinoma. Sinoma has also been tasked with upgrading and renovating the grinder at the Zahana (Mascara) cement plant owned by the GICA group. An initial €296.41 million (DZD 32 billion) will be made available for the Djamoura site, which will employ 600 personnel. The plant's production capacities on its completion in early 2016
Cilas, the joint venture set up between Lafarge-Algérie and businessman Abdennour Souakri, has awarded the contract to build the new Djamoura cement works at Biskra to Chinese firm Sinoma.
Sinoma has also been tasked with upgrading and renovating the grinder at the Zahana (Mascara) cement plant owned by the GICA group.
An initial €296.41 million (DZD 32 billion) will be made available for the Djamoura site, which will employ 600 personnel. The plant’s production capacities on its completion in early 2016 are forecast to be around three million tonnes, which combined with government efforts to move away from imports, is expected to help reduce Algeria’s cement imports after 2016 and contribute to regional economic development.
Cilas says it will equip the new cement works with the most up-to-date grinding technologies developed by Lafarge and aims to adhere to the highest standards in environmental protection. In the future, Lafarge-Algérie, which controls a third of the cement production consumed in Algeria, aims to focus on adapting production to meet demand and product range innovation.
