SkreenHouse Ventures has locked in an investment in Litherm Technologies GmbH, which develops fully electric calcination technology.
The technology can enable lime and cement to be produced with lower or, in some cases, no CO2 emissions. SkreenHouse Ventures has invested €1m in the €6.5 million seed financing round.
“We support technologies that enable meaningful industrial decarbonisation while maintaining economic viability. Litherm’s fully electric calcination process and integrated CO2 capture approach is an important step forward for the industry,” SkreenHouse Ventures manager Ludovic Emsens said.
SkreenHouse Ventures is the innovation and investment platform of SigmaRoc, which is a European lime and minerals producer.
SigmaRoc said technologies such as fully electric calcination, combined with built-in CO2 capture, could significantly reduce the unavoidable process emissions in lime production while remaining commercially viable.
The funding builds on existing cooperation between Litherm and industry partners, including SigmaRoc’s German entity Fels-Werke, which is providing a site and material supply for the construction and operation of a pilot plant to evaluate the technology under real-world conditions.
