Smiley Monroe is reopening and resuming all production at a reduced capacity at its sites in Northern Ireland from Tuesday, 5 May 2020 following the Department for the Economy's recent publication of a list of priority business sectors that need to continue to operate during the COVID-19 crisis in Northern Ireland.

A statement signed by company managing director Vaughan Monroe read: “As a manufacturer of endless conveyor belts and cut rubber and plastic parts, Smiley Monroe is deemed to be an essential business activity, in order to continue the supply chain for the following priority business sectors: quarrying, mining, construction and waste.

“Our employees’ health and wellbeing are at the centre of our operations and to keep our returning employees and workplace safe from the virus, we have implemented comprehensive safety measures in line with the government.

“Smiley Monroe Inc in Kentucky, US opened for production [w/b 27 April] and is operating in line with state and federal health and safety guidelines.

“Smiley Monroe India based in Hosur will remain temporarily closed, but this will be reviewed again [w/b 4 May] in line with updated Government guidelines.

“Our senior leadership Response Team will continue to monitor the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic situation daily. All our social media platforms will remain active for any updates, and if we can help address any concerns or queries, please get in touch with your usual day to day point of contact or account manager.”

Vaughan Monroe ended the statement saying how much Smiley Monore appreciated the efforts of its dedicated team and the valued cooperation of its partners in facing up to “this unprecedented challenge”.
