Quarries across Spain are preparing for visits by more than 4000 students this week as part of the Day of the Tree celebrations. On 14 April, the students, aged 10 to 14, will visit selected quarries to help plant more than 5000 trees as part of conservation work. The event, coordinated by Spain’s aggregates association ANEFA, is being held a month ahead of the European Minerals Day because the weather in Spain is best suited to tree-planting in April.

Through the network of quarry visits, the association hopes that the children will gain insight into the need for aggregates and the efforts made by the industry to protect the environment and improve biodiversity.
