Essex, UK-based SRC Aggregates has bought five new Mercedes-Benz Aroc tipper trucks. The move follows the company’s purchase of an 8x4 Aroc eight months ago - the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle it had bought. All the Arocs have been supplied by dealer Orwell Truck & Van. SRC says the tipper’s outstanding fuel economy of just over 8.5 mpg (3.6kmpg) prompted the latest purchases. Essex, UK-based SRC Aggregates has bought five new Mercedes-Benz Aroc tipper trucks.

The move follows the company’s purchase of an 8×4 Aroc eight months ago – the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle it had bought. All the Arocs have been supplied by dealer Orwell Truck & Van.

SRC says the tipper’s outstanding fuel economy of just over 8.5 mpg (3.6kmpg) prompted the latest purchases.

The initial vehicle and four of SRC Aggregates’ latest Arocs are 3243K models with ClassicSpace M-cabs. They have 10.7-litre straight-six engines which produce 315 kW (428 hp) and are paired with Mercedes PowerShift automated transmissions. Their steel tipping bodies are by Boweld. The fifth, a 3243B variant with the same cab and engine combination, is fitted with a Putzmeister concrete mixer drum.

SRC Aggregates is headquartered at Highwood Quarry in Great Dunmow, near Stansted Airport. It operates four other quarries in Essex and offers a portfolio of aggregates, waste disposal and recycling services. It also has expertise in construction and civil engineering projects, and specialises in the planning and development of quarries.

In addition to the six vehicles acquired from Orwell Truck & Van, SRC also has a pre-built 6×4 Arocs mixer purchased directly from the bodybuilder earlier this year. All the vehicles are working from SRC’s Crown Quarry in Colchester.

“We’ve only been running trucks for the past five years, prior to which it was just earthmovers and other plant,” says SRC Aggregates transport director Clint Layzell. “In addition to their other attributes, the Arocs look great and complement the clean, modern image of our company that we’re endeavouring to present.”
