Tarmac, a leading UK building materials and construction solutions business, has announced the acquisition of ScottishPower’s 50% share of the ScotAsh Limited joint venture, a market leader in sustainable construction products.

Tarmac will now take full ownership of ScotAsh, which it has operated since 1999, and will continue to operate the company under the ScotAsh name, offering its full range of products.

With nearly 20 years’ experience, ScotAsh manufactures products using recycled pulverised fuel ash (PFA) from power stations, providing a high quality and sustainable alternative to primary aggregates, cements and grouts.

Allan Everett, Ash business manager at Tarmac, said: “Each year, ScotAsh supplies its range of sustainable, technologically advanced products to customers within the UK and global construction industry, including to Tarmac’s Dunbar Cement Plant for production of its Phoenix cement.

“Bringing the company fully into the Tarmac fold will help us further enhance the combined expertise of both businesses, leverage our national supply and import capabilities for PFA, and strengthen our ability to deliver the cutting-edge solutions to customers.”
