Mick Stovin has been tapped to boost the circularity team at Tarmac as the experienced industry veteran takes on a significant new role.
Stovin, who has more than four decades of industry experience, will lead the UK-based company’s industrial minerals strategy with a large focus on how to increase the internal supply of low-carbon, recycled and secondary minerals for use in Tarmac’s asphalt, construction and industrial applications.
“Tarmac has a real opportunity to unlock significantly more value from the materials it already produces and handles, while reducing carbon impact at the same time,” Stovin said.
“My role is about looking at minerals differently – recognising their true value, keeping materials in use for longer, and finding smarter, lower-carbon ways to supply both our own operations and wider industrial markets. It’s an exciting challenge and one that aligns perfectly with Tarmac’s circularity ambitions.”
In addition to being the general manager for industrial minerals at Tarmac, Stovin is a well-regarded industry figure as the chairman of the British Calcium Carbonate Federation and the Agricultural Lime Association and part of the Mineral Products Association council. Prior to Tarmac, he worked at LKAB Minerals as its European commercial director and ran a consultancy business focused on logistics and minerals.
“Mick brings an exceptional depth of knowledge across industrial minerals, logistics and circular material use,” Tarmac circularity director Steve Birch said.
“His experience and industry leadership will be invaluable as we continue to embed circular principles across the business, reduce our reliance on virgin materials and create higher-value, lower-carbon solutions. We’re really pleased to welcome him to the circularity team.”
