Tarmac, the UK’s largest quarry company, says it has become the first company in its sector to secure a new prestigious five-star rating from Achilles BuildingConfidence.

BuildingConfidence is an independent third-party accreditation scheme which validates supply chain management, health and safety, responsible sourcing and environmental performance.

The five-star rating is an incentive and a guide for certified Achilles BuildingConfidence suppliers, enabling them to understand how they perform against the accreditation standards.

The aim is to drive higher levels of compliance and encourage companies to improve their rating against that of their peers.

Five stars are only awarded to suppliers who comply with all aspects of the certification process for two or more successive years.

Dr Martyn Kenny, director of sustainability at Tarmac said:”This five-star rating provides further assurance to Tarmac’s customers of our transparent approach and performance on sustainability, health and safety, and responsible sourcing. As a single, cross-industry accreditation, BuildingConfidence has real benefits to the tendering process by reducing the time and cost for Tarmac and our suppliers.”

Philip Foster, director of construction at Achilles said:”We congratulate Tarmac on being one of the first accredited companies to achieve the five-star rating, an achievement we only expect the top 5% of accredited companies to attain. Tarmac is also demonstrating clear leadership as a buyer member of BuildingConfidence, and seeking to drive the same standards of excellence across its supply chain.”
