Tarmac has announced that it has become one of the first nuclear aggregates suppliers to achieve ISO 19443 certification through the British Standards Institution (BSI).
The building materials company says the certification strengthens its ability to provide consistent, repeatable and traceable quality materials for the nuclear sector.
ISO 19443 is an international quality management standard developed specifically for the nuclear sector, building on the ISO 9001 quality framework with additional requirements for the supply of products and services important to nuclear safety. These include a stronger emphasis on safety culture, traceability and configuration management.
Although ISO 19443 accreditation is not a compliance requirement for the nuclear supply chain, Tarmac says that operating to this certified standard demonstrates its commitment to safety and upholding industry best practices.
The business’ use of internally sourced materials helps reduce supply-chain risk and strengthens traceability from source to site.
